Swim Torquay has received a grant of £4500 from The Devon Community Foundation, to run swimming sessions for senior clients. These sessions have enabled Age Concern to start its first "Fit as a Fish" programme at the pool- including aqua aerobic activities with Paul Harrison, who has won the "Inspiration to Fitness Award" 2009, held at the Welsh National Sports Centre in Cardiff.
The Devonian Trust has donated £6000 for the purchase of a mobile hoist, to allow swimmers with a disability to use the pool. This is now being used and is seen in this photo of Paul working with seniors during an aqua aerobics session - these are held on Wednesdays from 12 to 1pm. Another seniors "Fit as a Fish" session, with swimming instruction, takes place on Friday afternoons - 3-30 to 4-30pm. Phone pool for details.
Our volunteers raise funds by running Bring & Buy coffee mornings; raffles, etc., and a junior supporter has started to donate using this site - click on link -
Funds are needed for equipment and to extend pool services to the community.
Donations and sponsorship ideas are very welcome.
