It is 4½ months since the pool reopened after 3 months closure for major renovation.
We are pleased to welcome our new Manager, Marcus Jordan.
Marcus comes to us with several years experience in Leisure Management which followed on from his time at University College of St Mark and St John, Plymouth where he obtained a Sports Science degree.
The staff have had time to settle down and get used to their new responsibilities, the new plant and each other and with the direction of a full time experienced manager will form an efficient team doing their best for all our customers.
We have encountered many problems since reopening, however most have been dealt with and we hope everything will run much more smoothly from now on.
A new roof, new windows, insulation and modern efficient boilers keep the whole building warm and the new lighting has brightened it all up. Our thanks go to Torbay Council and Sport England for financing the work. We have welcomed back schools, clubs and all swimmers young and old to the different activities that have been running at Plainmoor pool for many years.
New activities introduced include:
- Yoga classes – in the meeting room on Tuesdays 4.00 – 5.00pm
- National Pool Lifeguard Qualification training courses which run over 3 weekends and provide the essential qualification to obtain work as a lifeguard.
- Triathlon training courses and individual coaching sessions for Tri-athletes
Swimming lessons with ASA qualified teachers are available for all ages in groups or 1 to 1.
Water Mobility sessions can improve life for people with disabilities or mobility problems
Aquasize is back on Tuesdays 6.00-7.00pm with a new teacher, Teri.
Swimming is an excellent way to keep fit, sessions are available at different times of day so please pick up a time table and find a time to fit in with your other commitments
Many ladies will be pleased to hear that a hairdryer will be installed in the changing room in the next few days. Make the most of it – swim before you go to work
Fund raising continues to be an essential part of keeping the pool afloat financially. We are holding a Coffee Morning, Bring and Buy Sale and Raffle on Monday 31st March starting 10.00am to raise money for the pool. In future months we hope to organize such events as a sponsored swim, sponsored aquasize and bag packing. We welcome all offers of help and new ideas to raise funds.
Thank you for your support and patience with the closure and other problems which you may have encountered. We hope you will continue to enjoy using the pool for many years to come.
